Practical Placements
Throughout their two years at college, students spend alternate weeks in lectures and practical placements. The placements, which for each student change every term, include day nurseries, primary schools and family homes. All placements are carefully selected and monitored by the college.
In their second year all students also spend two weeks in a residential family placement in the Bath area.
Second year students have the opportunity of a placement at a maternity or paediatric ward in a local hospital. Time spent in maternity wards involves students working alongside midwives caring for babies and supporting mothers both before and after their baby's birth.
Practical placements are an ideal opportunity for the students to put into practice what they have learnt in their theoretical and practical lectures. The placements enable them to reflect on their own and others' professional practice.
As part of the Norland Diploma, students must receive satisfactory reports from each of their placement settings.
