sky nannies fly in!
9 july 2004

On Monday 12 July to Wednesday 14 July, 15 members of Gulf Air cabin crew will be coming to Norland College, Bath to train as Sky Nannies. This is the first time that the Sky Nanny course has been held in Bath, previous courses have been held at Gulf Air Headquarters in Bahrain.

The main duties of the Sky Nanny are to provide care and attention for children from the moment of boarding their flight to the end of their journey (http://www.gulfairco.com/guide/sky-nanny.asp). The Sky Nanny training course provided by Norland College gives participating cabin crew a foundation in childcare and child development. At the end of this course the Sky Nanny must demonstrate an understanding of how they can best meet the needs of babies, young children and their families that travel with Gulf Air. The course includes learning about children’s physical, cognitive, language, emotional and social development, how to manage children’s behaviour in a positive manner and how to provide suitable activities for young children when travelling.

As part of their visit to Bath, Norland College staff will (weather permitting) take the cabin crew on an open top bus tour of the city - a mode of transport not so familiar to them, but still with a bird’s eye view! The staff will also share lunch with the crew every day and enjoy an evening out in Bath.

Kay Crosse, Principal of Norland College said, “Norland College is delighted to be able to welcome Gulf Air cabin crew to Norland College and to Bath. It gives us an opportunity to further build our links with Gulf Air, to show them the facilities that we have here at Norland College and to share with them all that Bath has to offer.”
