Foundation Degree
in association with The University of Gloucestershire
(delivered at Norland College, Bath)
Who should do this course?
This full-time degree is designed for childcare practitioners who are level 3 qualified with at least 2 years experience in early years. Practitioners should be currently involved in the sector in paid or unpaid work as long as this is for the equivalent of 2 days per week. Lectures are held at Norland College every Wednesday between 1.45 and 6pm.
What will I learn?
The Early Years Foundation Degree builds upon the practical work already being undertaken in the work place, and provides clear links between practice and theory. The course includes modules such as Early Years Principles, Policy and Practice, Working with Families, Child Development, Senior Practitioner Roles and Responsibilities and Personal Development.
Students will also have the opportunity to explore their own specific interests through an independent work based project. All modules are closely aligned to the Early Years Foundation Stage.
What are my options once I qualify?
Gaining the full honours degree provides access to a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) course. Being accredited with Qualified Teacher Status enables you to teach in a state maintained (primary, middle or secondary sectors) and special schools in England and Wales.
The full honours degree is also an essential step towards the Early Years Professional Status qualification (EYPS). The government has a target to have an EYPS qualified practitioner leading the curriculum for children and families in all children's centres by 2010 and all private, voluntary and independent full daycare settings by 2015.
What are the course fees?
The fee for this course is £3225 per annum. Students may be able to apply to their Local Authority for funding.
