Career opportunities

Norland graduates (Norlanders) have direct access to their very own employment agency!

Norland Agency works exclusively with Norlanders, offering life long support and career placements all over the world. For more information about Norland Agency visit the website www.norlandagency.co.uk.

These are just some of the opportunities available following graduation from Norland:

  • Norland Nanny – Being a nanny involves working in a family home caring for children. They are responsible for all aspects of the child’s care including arranging a wide range of age and stage appropriate activities and preparing and cooking meals for them. Norland Nannies have an international reputation for being the best in the world and are in very high demand. Norland Agency currently has more positions on its books than it can fill.
  • Norland Maternity Nurse – A maternity nurse will work with a family when they have a new born baby, helping the parents and supporting the care of the new baby.
  • Proxy parent – A proxy parent lives with a family and takes on parental responsibility while the parents are away. This is often for when parents travel on business or have a family emergency and do not want their child’s routine disrupted.
  • Running a private business - many Norlanders have gone onto start their own businesses using the knowledge and skills they learnt at Norland. For example:
    • Opening a nursery.
    • Becoming a childminder and caring for children in your own home.
    • One Norlander started an organic baby food company using the skills she learnt in Home Economics - all you need to do is find an opportunity and the world is your oyster!
  • Alternatively you might choose to be a pre-school leader, a hospital playworker (with further training) or a crèche leader.
  • Following the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies (Norland)
    • You could go on to do the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) which would qualify you to work as a Primary School Teacher.
    • Alternatively you could apply to gain Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) allowing you to work as a lead practitioner in a childcare setting

Following the Norland training the opportunities for you really are endless, from working within early year settings, to running your own business or even returning to Norland to teach early years to future Norland students; the former principal was a Norlander herself so the sky really is the limit!

Here are just a few quotes from some of our graduates:

“A Norland qualification can open the door to opportunities you may not have even thought about yet”

“I am so grateful to Norland as I am pretty sure without my training I would not be where I am today.”

“If you are lucky enough to be accepted – go for it and enjoy all that it offers.”
