Diploma in Childcare and Education (DCE)

This course is studied over two years. Successful candidates will achieve the Council for Awards in Children's Care and Education (CACHE) Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education.

The qualification is split into 3 stages: Award, Certificate and Diploma, with the Award and Certificate building towards the Level 3 Diploma. Students are expected to progress though the Award and Certificate to complete the Diploma.

Following completion of the DCCE, students begin the one year Norland Probationary post leading to the prestigious Norland Diploma.

The main areas of the course include an in-depth study of child development together with learning to observe and plan effectively for young children aged between 0-8. Subjects include: Development from Birth to 16; Keeping Children Safe; Play and Learning in Children's Education. A particularly enjoyable module for students covers working with babies in the first year of life.

Entry requirements
5 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English and Maths. For applicants from Scotland the requirements are 5 Standard Grades at Level 3.

The minimum age of entry for this course is 17.
