BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies (Norland)

The BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies (Norland) is unique to Norland College. The course aims to meet the needs of students who wish to combine a degree with the competencies needed to achieve the qualification necessary for professional childcare practice.
This is a 4 year course with the first 2 years spent at Norland College and the 3rd and 4th years running alongside employment. The pattern of study in these final 2 years is designed to be flexible so as to meet the individual learning and employment needs of the students.
Entry requirements:
GCSE passes in English and Maths, 2 passes at A2 level (Grade C or above), a GNVQ at Advanced level or a BTEC National Diploma (applicants with 4 x AS levels at C and above may be considered).
For applications from Scotland the requirements are 2 Highers at Grade A or B or 3 Highers at Grade C or above.

Course Structure:
- During the first two years, students will be based at Norland College and on successful completion will achieve the Diploma of Higher Education in Early Childhood Studies with a rating of 240 Credit Accumulation Transfer (CATS) points.
- The next step is for students to work towards the BA (ordinary) Early Childhood Studies (Norland) which includes reflective practice and workshops. This runs alongside the probationary year of employment (see Norland Diploma for more information).
- The final step is to complete the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies (Norland). This comprises the completion of a dissertation and the attendance at a series of University of Gloucestershire workshops (London, Bath or Cheltenham based) on a part-time basis, while continuing in employment.
Alternatively students can complete the final part of the degree course (steps 2 and 3) after they have completed their Norland probationary post (their first year of employment).
